The Writer’s Coffee Shop Publishing House, $21.99, 287 pages

Corrigan Bain has always been different from others. Blessed – or cursed – with the ability to see into the future, he spends his time saving people from accidents. When sometime lover and FBI agent Maggie Trent asks Corrigan for help in a series of deaths involving an invisible assailant, Corrigan agrees to help. As he looks into the cases he unearths memories from his past involving monsters that are always two steps ahead of him and kill everyone who can see them. Corrigan must unlock the secrets to killing the monsters before he winds up dead.

Fixer is a thrilling sci-fi novel by author Gene Doucette. Using the theory that time is not linear, the author skillfully crafts a book where the present and future all blend into one. The format of the book reflects that as it goes back and forth between the past, present and future. This sometimes results in the reader feeling a bit disoriented, nicely reflecting the state of the characters. The characters are well-written, complex, and interesting. The plot is fast-paced and engaging throughout the book. Sci-fi fans will want to read this book!
