Golden Domes and Silver Lanterns is a beautifully written and illustrated book that educates children on various aspects of the Muslim religion through the use of color. The main character is a little girl who highlights different aspects of her culture and faith by highlighting the colors attached to those aspects: red for a prayer rug, gold for the mosque, brown for dates, and silver for a fanoos (lantern). The book has one color per page, and the illustrations highlight the importance of that color within the culture. The book also has a nice glossary at the end to help define terms that children may be unfamiliar with. In such a time of conflicts between cultures, this book is a lovely reminder of the importance of tolerance and learning the ways of other cultures to promote acceptance. The illustrations are stunning from cover to cover. This is a lovely, colorful book that will help children learn about others.
