Patrick Henry is painted as a hero in this biography. The man who once declared, “Give me liberty or give me death” is a harrowing character in a book set in a time where such figures were needed. For readers of this book, a strong knowledge of American history is not needed, as Unger makes strong cases for the men who signed the Declaration.
Lion of Liberty, is cleverly written and a quick read at 273 pages. Readers should not be deterred by the sheer historical value of the book, as Unger puts Patrick Henry into context with the American Revolution and newfound Rationalist writings. Students and adults alike will enjoy this read about an incredibly important time in American history.
